Alex Wen — Writer, Director, Technologist, Filmmaker
Alex Wen (KCW, Kuo Chuen Wen) is a writer, director, technologist, and independent filmmaker based in Los Angeles. Known for his work under the KCWtechnica and KCW Industries banner, Alex bridges the worlds of cinema, technology, and human behavior — creating custom camera rigs, directing independent films, and writing on the intersection of culture, psychology, and creative work.
His filmmaking philosophy rejects waiting for institutional financing. Drawing inspiration from Werner Herzog and the tradition of guerrilla cinema, Alex has produced, directed, and engineered his own productions from the ground up — including the MRK (Modular Rigging Kit), a custom-engineered camera support system designed for independent cinematographers.
Filmmaker & Director
Alex Wen has directed and produced independent films across documentary, narrative, and experimental formats. His work explores human dignity, social systems, and the creative spirit under constraint. He is the creator of the IICBW series and the Ghost Walk project, and has been involved in productions ranging from music videos to feature-length narratives.
Technologist & Camera Engineer
Under the KCWtechnica brand, Alex designs and builds custom cinematography equipment including the MRK Modular Rigging Kit, the M-Trolley Supertrack, and the MRK Velocity motorized vehicle mount jib. His engineering work is aimed at democratizing professional-grade filmmaking tools for independent creators.
Writer & Cultural Observer
Alex writes prolifically on human behavior, psychology, technology, and social commentary. His essays and observations — collected at AlexWen.com — cover topics from quantum computing and AI to copyright law, social media dynamics, and the ethics of creative work. He is a founding voice at KCW Industries and a longtime contributor to independent media.
